In spite of the pretty poor weather, galaxy season is still underway. I’m really happy with the detail in M108 and the central star in M97. The Antlia RGB filter is proving challenging at the processing stage as some very unusual reflections are apparent. This might also be light leaks in the flats (more likely, in fact). To be investigated.

Last night was beautifully clear and remarkably timed for the occultation of Mars. At 1.5°W this took place at 04h58. The exit from the occutation exactly one hour later could not be imaged from the observatory because the Moon and Mars had disappeared behind the large oak tree in the West-North-West direction.

Notes

19th November 2022 The current long run of cloudy skies has freed up a bit of time to catch with some processing and experimentation. The latest image is properly calibrated and processed with Bill Blanshan’s Pixinsight script for Hubble pallet images using OSC data.

NGC7822

The new wide field target for the current period of good weather is NGC7822 / SH2-171, an HII region in Cepheus.

10th August 2022 Five and a half hours of data gathered last night. Compared to previous targets the nebulosity of NGC7822 is quite faint.
